Dale and I sat in the family room discussing what God has shown us. We can’t talk about it without tears. We also couldn’t decide when the right time to tell Rachel might be. As we were talking, Rachel walks in the room. We stop and focus on her. Dale immediately recognizes she has been crying and asks her what’s wrong. She responds, “I’ve been looking at the picture of my Compassion child Miriam. I’m just so sad for her. I’m sad for all of the children in the world who aren’t loved, and who don’t have parents and a home they can feel loved in like I do.” Tears streamed as she shared her heart. Dale and I had lumps in our throat. We knew God was working on her heart and that it was time to tell her. Dale looked at me and I at him. He asked her to sit down a minute

So Rachel sat there perplexed as Dale told her we had some news to share. He explained to her what God had told him and I explained how it was confirmed for me. We felt anxious as we wondered what her response would be. How does an only child for 14 years respond to hearing she’s going to get a full-fledged sibling?
Her first question was, “Will I have to change schools?” She goes to Shades Mountain Christian and is very attached to the friends and teachers she has there. We told her we weren’t sure how it would all work out but that we know that she is currently where God wants her. If he changes that, he will also prepare her heart for it. She looked at us with tears and said, “Let’s do it!” We all hugged and cried. She then said, “Can she be Asian?”
