At 9:00am Lily picked us up and we went back to the civil affairs building. Again we wondered if she would think her foster mom was coming back to get her but to no avail. She clung tightly to Rachel in the elevator and sat in both my lap and Dale's while we participated in our interviews and signed paperwork. We had an official adoption picture taken with her. She gave the peace sign of course.
We then went for her physical exam at the medical clinic. It was an ant hill of activity with easily over 100 people waiting. Fortunately, they took us quickly and checked Bella's height (102 cm = 42.2 in) and weight (34 lbs). They did a simple vision test and looked at her ears, nose and throat. She laid down easily for the doctor to check out her legs, torso and arms. Then she had to get a TB test. Lily told her what was going to happen and she asked her if she would "keep the same face" when they put the needle under her skin. Bella nodded yes. I had to hold her arm stiff and squeeze her legs between mine as she sat on my lap. She was a little scared and flinched but no tears. She was really good.
We were back at our hotel by 12:30 and decided to go eat. We left the hotel with Bella atop dales shoulders. She slaps his forehead and barks commands, none of which we understand. He calls her "The Little Empress."
We tried an authentic Chinese restaurant. It was an experience!! When we entered we saw about 30 aquariums filled with all kinds of live seafood. The smell was terrible. Once past the lobby we entered a very nice dining area and were sat at a large round table. Bella has Rachel's old iPhone which she loves playing music on. She immediately turned it up loud and started laughing. They brought a large, heavy 30 page menu out with pictures of every dish. Nothing familiar and everything from pork to eel testicles on it. We ordered a scallop dish and a pork dish that seemed least harmful. Bella was excited when they brought them out. With only chopsticks to eat with she recognized we needed help. She put food on our plates saving the best morsels for herself. We fumbled with the chopsticks and managed a few bites. The pork was nothing like we expected and several pieces were meat on a very tiny ribcage. Bella was loud and proud the whole time and we felt love quite the spectacle. Table manners are not the same here and it was not pleasant to watch people eat some of the choice varieties. I finally went to ask who we pay and we escaped without incident. No more authentic Chinese for us!
Bella tripped on the sidewalk when we left and scratched her knees. She didn't cry but it knocked the jokester out of her for a bit. I put Neosporin on her knees when we got back to the room and she ran around like a crazy kid again. After about an hour we all felt the effects of jet lag again and needed to nap. We all finally fell asleep for a few hours.
We went out for our second dinner again at Lucy's restaurant which is an outside cafe right near the children's park and serves American, Italian and Chinese fare. Bella ate a ton and was very good the whole time. We came back to the hotel and relaxed, ate some much overdue chocolate and played with her until bed time.
Wednesday at 3:00 we go complete the TB test at the clinic.
